Zebrawood (Microberlinia brazzavillensis) is one of the easiest exotic hardwoods to correctly identify. It comes from West Africa, primarily Gabon and Cameroon. As it's name implies it looks like a zebra, with it's distinctive pale yellow-brown and darker streaking. It's striping pattern varies considerably. It's texture is fairly coarse and the graining somewhat wavy.
Zebrawood cuts fairly well, but a smooth finish is often times difficult to obtain with machine or hand planing because of the tendency of the wood to tear. It has good gluing properties, but veneers will need careful handling in order to avoid cracking before applying. Zebrawood is used for decorative veneers, wood turnings and tool handles.
